Lura Ann Turner saw the need for a "home" for people with developmental impairments in 1965. Young people were being moved from The Arizona Children's Colony into the community, and many were unable to live alone or with their family. Caring for persons with developmental impairments is still accomplished today by stressing a family-style environment in the homes, establishing a strong positive work ethic, and providing recreational and cultural activities in addition to community engagement. This common goal has become a reality throughout the years thanks to the ongoing support of people, members of numerous organizations and service groups, and local companies. This valuable contribution guarantees the continuity and development of Lura Turner Homes as we service the particular needs of our residents.
