SUMMARY   Services Excellence Summary

Navin June Norling, b. 1970), examines Americana imagery, compiling miscellanea from popular culture sayings and folklore. Norling spent summers at his grandfather's ranch in California's Central Valley during his childhood. There, all his resources could be reused and there was no waste. This rural environment influenced Norling to use salvaged parts and eventually incorporate bricolage and assemblage techniques in his training as an artist. Norling was born in California, and spent most of his childhood in California's suburbs. He is part of a group that was determined to create a unique aesthetic, through graffiti monikers and wheat paste messaging. He is vicariously committed to urban grit, and has kept a street-style palette in his art. His ongoing investigation into the dynamic American culture landscape and its sociopolitical nuances is influenced in large part by his use of urban debris and found objects. The artist often uses cast-off wood in his work. This is evident in the windows in Good to the Last Drop (2005), which he presented at the Sculpture Center, New York, and Black Cats (2003) that he has in the Brooklyn Museum's contemporary art collection.
