There will be plenty of space available: The new Prairie Sky Cemetery will offer a wide range of burial options, including cremation and in-ground. Once the official opening of the cemetery has occurred, Calgary will accept inquiries. The first phase of the new cemetery was opened in summer 2021. It is designed to provide Calgarians with a tranquil place to remember their loved ones, to pay respects to them and to connect to nature. Beautiful views can be seen of the mountains from the east, thanks to the natural setting and rolling hills of the cemetery. There are traditional offerings such as flat markers and upright monument graves. Calgary also offers the first ever green burial section. The green burial option allows for natural burial, without embalming or concrete liners. There will be three options for cremation: scattering, ground burial and columbarium.
