Carrie Steele started her business in 2006 with Cara-Lee Ireland, her friend, and her former partner. Metal Clay Alchemist, a company founded by Carries in 1995 as a result of her dedication and determination at the time, has become Canada's leading online supplier of metal clay products. Carries' daughters played a vital role in day-to-day operations. Carrie, a metal clay pioneer, and Cara-Lee, a senior certification instructor of Art Clay. Carrie, as a teacher at the time, was interested in ArtClay standardization. Carrie believed that educators should either have a standardized education or be well-versed in the medium they use to teach. At that time, there was no online information available (how times have changed!). They were fortunate to find English versions of the Japanese-only books. Carrie and Carla Lee set out on a mission to train other metal clay instructors to share their love of this medium. The business has changed names and transitions over the years. The business was originally called Spirit of the Rock. It changed to Art Clay Canada in 2011 and then Metal Clay Alchemist. Cara-Lee was diagnosed with ALS and Cara's partner Carries slowly faded away from the business. Carrie gave up her job to dive into the company and all its aspects. Carrie was determined not to let Carla-Lee's dream fade.
