Aboriginal Funeral Chapel was established in 1991 in Winnipeg to meet the needs of Winnipeg's Aboriginal community. Today, the trusted service is provided by Aboriginal Funeral Chapel to more than 60 First Nation Bands in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. It offers traditional Winnipeg services and can help with transportation to remote areas for those who need them. Our first priority is to support those who have passed away. We honor the traditions that provide comfort for them and often assist families dealing with grief far away. Understanding the value of tradition and culture during times of loss is important to us. We take great pride in being able to provide both the support and flexibility needed for each community and family in order create an environment that allows them to continue their traditional traditions. We have guitars and we encourage families to bring their own instruments and music, as song and music are essential elements of native culture. A smudge box can be provided along with sweetgrass, tobacco and cedar. There are many options for burial clothes, such as suits, tuxedos and handmade white dresses. We can also accommodate people who have lost a child. A wide range of arrangements are also available in our selection room. After the death of Peter Kilcollins in 2005, the third-generation funeral director, Peter Kilcollins became the owner and manager of Aboriginal Funeral Chapel.
