St. Boniface Hospital is home to the Buhler Gallery, a unique art space in Manitoba. Since September 2007, the Buhler Gallery has been open to patients, staff, doctors, volunteers, and visitors. Its goal is to create a place of vision and contemplation, engaging everyone in music, visual arts, readings and performances. St. Boniface Hospital is aware of the importance of arts for health, healing and community. The hospital has enhanced the importance of arts to health by establishing a dedicated gallery. The hospital hopes that the visitors find these exhibitions interesting and soothing. A part-time Director/Curator is employed by the Gallery, but it relies heavily on volunteers who are willing to welcome visitors. Art Advisory Council, a group of volunteers from the medical and artistic communities, is also a part of the Gallery's governance. The Council holds three meetings per year in order to evaluate the Gallery’s operation, to approve the donation of artworks to its permanent collection, and to provide professional guidance to the Curator. St. Boniface Hospital is the parent organization of the Gallery. It receives funds in the form small endowments from the Winnipeg Foundation, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and St. Boniface Hospital. Donations from different sources are used to supplement the funds.
