Carmelite Sisters D.C.J. is a contemplative/apostolic Congregation of pontifical rite aggregated to the first Order of Discalced Carmelites. We are contemplatives and we pray for reparation to Jesus' Heart, as well as intercession for all the world's needs. Our apostolic efforts help others by showing God's love through caring for the aged, children and those in need. Blessed Mother Maria Teresa of Saint Joseph, a Carmel of the Divine Heart of Jesus founded it in 1891. She wanted to marry the contemplative spirit and the active service she gave to the poor. Contemplative prayer is the heart of Carmelite Spirituality. It's a silent, loving relationship between person and Jesus Christ. The intimacy that is found in contemplation with God leads to prayer for intercession on behalf all people. Blessed Maria Teresa of Saint Joseph also added her special charism of prayer to make reparation for any sins she has committed. Blessed Mother Maria Teresa's vision for the apostolic endeavor of the Sisters was, that they would "Descend like Angels from Mount Carmel to grieve laden humanity."
