MDH is managed by a board and has staff members who are clinical counselors. It is composed of a three-story building and two buildings that serve as an outer structure. It can accommodate up to 14 residents. The house is centrally located in Hintonburg, with easy accessibility to public transport. MDH uses a social learning model-based general treatment approach. Social learning views addiction as an learned behaviour that can be "unlearned" by developing new patterns of thinking and coping strategies. Clients who have problems with alcohol or drug abuse will benefit from the addiction treatment program. Each client's treatment plan is customized to meet their needs. Residents on full parole and statutory release can use the Supervised Apartment for two months, or for 90 days to bridge into the community.
