Larry received his B.A. Laurentian University, 1970. Larry completed 1 year towards a Bachelor of Divinity. He then graduated with L.L.B. Queens University, 1974. His father, H. D. Peterson Q. C., was his first article and then he joined the Wishart, Noble, Nori firm. Larry was called to the bar after he returned as a lawyer at Wishart Noble Nori. He also took charge of their Wawa office which included White River and Hornepayne clientele. Larry took over the Peterson & Peterson law firm from H. D. Peterson in Bruce Mines. Larry established a branch in Blind River in 1978 and a Sault Ste Marie office in 1979. The three offices have 13 skilled support personnel and are fully operational on a daily basis.
