Cindy MacMillan founded the Academy of Realist Art, Boston in Boston's historic leather district in 2009. Our academy has grown to be a small, medium-sized school that is proud of its nurturing atmosphere and enthusiastic instructors who care deeply about the students. We also demand high standards from our graduates. The students receive individual, practical instruction that allows them to progress at their own speed while learning the most advanced levels of drafting and painting. Students can enroll as beginners or more advanced in this intensive, focused learning method. Our curriculum is based on 19th-century French Academies, but with modern refinements. The school has a studio for instructors. They are open to having a conversation about their art and their work as an adjunct to class instruction. Many workshops are offered by both in-house as well as outside teachers that we find inspiring.
