MOAR was established in 1991 by other groups that deal with addictions to form a group to support Licensing of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. Most of us are people who have recovered from addiction and support the continuum of care, which includes peer support services. Recovering individuals, their families and friends will join together to raise awareness about recovery from addiction and alcoholism. MOAR envisions society in which addiction is considered a serious public health problem and where recovery is valued by all of our communities. Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery is an advocate for everyone who seeks to recover. Our mission is to do the necessary work to alleviate the inequalities and struggles that different groups face when seeking treatment services. The history of American healthcare has been marked by systemic racism, bias, and prejudice. MOAR will work together to provide a voice for people seeking to recover from all those who were historically marginalized and underserved.
