NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), aims to reduce poverty and give New Yorkers the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential. Institutional racism and discrimination are significant causes of poverty in New York City and contribute to inequalities in New York City's neighborhoods. Recognizing the potential role of policies and practices by systems and institutions (including NYC government agencies like DYCD) in perpetuating structural inequality, we acknowledge their importance. We will respond by evaluating internal and external DYCD practices and policies that allow structural inequalities to continue. This can help us achieve our goal of equitable execution of administrative and programmatic functions and the distribution of financial resources. While we are determined to achieve the anti-racist goal of becoming a city agency, it is clear that this requires a long and difficult journey. We will be a learning organization and hold ourselves responsible for adhering to the Guiding Principles. We will admit our mistakes and learn from them.
