Trees New York is a community tree planter, stewardship project and educator with over 40 years experience. Trees New York trained more than 13,500 Citizen Pruners since its inception and more than 9,000 young people in tree care, stewardship and maintenance. We have planted more than 5,000 trees in New York City's underserved neighborhoods over the past 10 years, which includes on New York City Housing Authority campus playgrounds and community gardens. Volunteer stewardship in New York City is essential to ensure the survival and health of street trees. Although there are limited funds for tree care, it is a critical part of New York City's budget. All street trees, no matter how large or small or whether they are young or old or in poor condition, improve our quality of life. The environment is most affected by mature trees. They remove almost 70 times as much pollution from the air than newly planted trees. New York City's street trees are not always able to reach maturity. There are many threats to your tree, including soil compaction, deicing agents, pollution and dog waste. The Trees New York programs ensure a healthy urban forest. They also create an army of volunteer volunteers that are trained, educated and dedicated to improving the city's urban environment. Trees New York offers ongoing assistance to support and guide volunteers.
