Orthodontists can be described as dental professionals who are skilled in moving and aligning teeth. UTHSC annually selects four outstanding orthodontic residents to complete a program of 34 months of training in this specialty. This group of residents is made up of doctors who are highly qualified in dentistry and want to focus exclusively on orthodontics. The program includes intensive clinical, lab, research, and classroom training. It leads to both a master's and specialty certificate in advanced orthotics. It involves diagnosing, preventing, intercepting, and treating orthodontic malocclusions. Each orthodontic procedure is overseen by one of our faculty members, who have at least five years of experience in clinical practice. Our majority of faculty members are American Board of Orthodontics certified. All patients receive individual care from a single faculty member and resident doctor.
