Since 1636 when citizen-soldiers created militias to protect their country and community, the Guard has existed. The Guard's roots have remained unchanged for over 377 years. The National Guard allows you to spend more time with your family by enlisting. The training typically takes place over a weekend, and there is a 2-week period of instruction once yearly.
