Jim Ford, who grew up in a Chicago suburb in a middle-class working class family, learned very early that if you want something you have to earn it. When he was in university, his father died unexpectedly. This event had a profound impact on Jim Ford's life. He was always a troublemaker, but after the death of his father, it felt as if he had a new life. Instead of going off track, the experience motivated him to work harder, and this helped him deal with his grief. It also allowed him to move on with his life. After a lot of hard work and study, he learned how to create something out of nothing. Art, he believes, is the vehicle for adventure and wonder. He strives in each piece to perfect the art of telling stories using his visual language. In his diverse works, he often explores taboos and inside jokes as well as beliefs, social commentary and phenomena. His compositions are also personal and autobiographical. He is a draftsman and paints at night, or evenings, when it's quiet, after most people are gone.
